of Wayne County 35 acres of land on the West side of Thunder Swamp. The share descended
from Elijah Kornegay, dec'd., to his brother David Kornegay (D l784) and from him to his
son Robert Kornegay.

Kornegay (I880-1955) married Edna Ann Pate, of Wayne County. 13 children. Their son:
Willard Kornegay (1915-1961) married Sadie Rachel Ezzell of Wayne County. 9 children.
Their son: Charles Dewey Kornegay married Katherine Jeanette Holmes. 3 children: Charles

consideration of the love, good will and affection which I have and do bear towards my
son, the said Daniel Kornegay, have given and granted the following parcels of land lying
and being in the County of Wayne and State of N.C., and on the West side of Thunder Swamp
bounded as follows: First, Beginning at a Sweet Gum in Marsh Branch, Kornegay's corner and
runs S 35 E 52 P. to a Black Gum in Kornegay's line, then with the old Pattent line S 57 W
126 P. to a stake, then S 33 F 126 P. to a small Red Oak, then S 57 W 16 P. to a post Oak,
Charles Wolf's corner, then with Wolf's line N 33 W 126 P. to a Hickory, Blake Barfield's
corner, then with his line N 17 E 120 P. to a small Hickory in said Barfield's line, then
with his line N 32 E 80 P. to a pine Barfield's corner, then with his line N 60 E 124 P.
to a Maple in Thunder Swamp, then S 34 E 20 P. to a Black Gum in Kornegay's old line, on
the run, then with the old Pattent line to the first station, containing 98 acres, it
being the whole of a Patent granted to the said George Kornegay on 8-28-1795. Second,
Beginning at a Red Oak near Wolf s and Martin's corner and runs with said Martin's line S
30 E 224 P. to a Black Jack, near a pond, then N 87 W 58 P. to a Pine, then W. 50 P. to
Walker's corner two Pines, then N 40 W 28 P. to said Walker's corner a Black Jack, thence
with Wolf's line to the Beginning, containing by computation 72 acres, it being the whole

Duplin and Jacob Kornegay of Wayne County, N.C. For the love, good will and affection
which he hath and do bare unto his son Jacob Kornegay, as well as diverse other good
causes, have given and granted a certain tract of land lying in Duplin County on the north
side of the North East Swamp and East side of Lewis's Branch and both sides of the great
Horsepen Branch including the houses and plantation thereon, it being all the land the
said George Kornegay possesses on the East side of Lewis's Branch, except a Patent for 130
acres Deeded to Basil Kornegay, containing by estimation 1400 acres. Except the use and
privilege of the same during the lifetime of said George Kornegay, Sr.

twice. First, and mother of his children Margaret (Downing) Lullum, born in England. He
married second, in 1802, Mourning (Stevens) Wiggins, widow of Willis Wiggins, of Wayne
County, N. C., and mother-in-law of Jacob Kornegay (D 1815) as well as step-mother.

to my wife Elizabeth Kornegay by the death of her father Willis Wiggins, reference being

The personal property of Basil Kornegay, Dec'd., was sold 12-5-1822 by his administrator,
Daniel Kornegay (brother).
Report of the Committee that settled the accounts of
Jno. Watkins and Tabitha Kornegay, guardians to the heirs of Basil Kornegay, Dec'd., Nov
Term 1828, in the hands of Guardians $916.58 with interest from the 26 Dec. 1826 and then
find in hands of gdns. up to this date $1281.64 in the whole makes $2311.50 up to the 7th
of Dec. 1828. We then received vouchers rendered by said guardians to the amount of
S326.12 including Commissions. Which leaves a balance due the Estate from the Guardians
$1985.38 which is to be paid over to William R. King, now their present Guardian. Together
with the amount of bad notes which was reported by Comm. in the last report all together
which are submitted Nov. 25, 1828.

Daniel Kornegay (D 1842) of Wayne County, N.C. Whereas, there issued forth from the
Superior Court of Law of the County of Wayne, a Writ against the goods and chattels, lands
and tenements of Theophilus Barfield and Taylor Rhodes, bearing test, the first Monday
after the fourth Monday of March, A.D. 1828, directed the said Shff. to cause to be made
the sum of $1,086.55 with interest on $973, from 10-4-1827 until paid -, which Daniel
Kornegay lately in said Court had recovered against them. And whereas the said Shff. did
levy the same according to law, upon a Tract of land of said Theophilus Barfield in
Sampson County, on 9-15-1829, at the Court House in Sampson County, at public sale James
Rhodes of Wayne County, became the last and highest bidder at $1510, and whereas the said
James Rhodes, hath for a Valuable consideration assigned his said bid and purchase, and
all interest therein, to Daniel Kornegay of Wayne County and has directed the said Sheriff
to execute a Deed to Daniel Kornegay for said land. Lying and being on the South side of
Goshen Swamp (and West side of Cabin Branch). Beginning at a stake are the run of Goshen
Swamp, 550 acres.

of Oates Marsh Branch - to an Ash and Maple on the run of Brooks Swamp, then down the main

plantation whereon she now lives, it being all the land I purchased from Bryan Carraway
and all from Thomas K. Kornegay that lies on the south side of the North East River below
the main road, joining the said Carraway tract.

horse, four cows and calves, fourteen head of sheep, two beds and furniture, six Windsor
chairs, six silver teaspoons, all the aforesaid property both real and personal to her and
her heirs and assigns forever, all of which she has received.

- Item - Son, George L. Kornegay, I give and bequeath
all my lands lying on the west side of Thunder Swamp, in Wayne County, whereon I live and
adjoining lands estimated to contain about 1400 acres more or less, and also the lands and
plantation lying on the north side of Goshen Swamp that I purchased of Lemuel H.
Whitfield, containing 453-1/4 acres more or less and lying in Sampson County. Also,
slaves, furniture, etc..

my land on the south side of the North East Swamp not heretofore given to his mother,

at a sweetgum, West of John Casey's fields, 220 acres.

George L. Kornegay of Sumpter County, Ala., for $1100, sold to Simon Herring of Wayne
County, N.C., Lot No. 6 of the Daniel Kornegay, dec'd. land.
In 1872, Elizabeth (Barfield) Kornegay, widow of
George L. Kornegay,of Levlin County, Ala. petitioned the Wayne County, N.C., Court for
$100 which she believed her children to be entitled.

Since Daniel Kornegay did not include the Brooks Swamp land (Smith Place) in his will it
was requested that the Court declare him Intestate, but was rejected. The will remained
intact, the land divided as previously shown and 28 slaves valued at $7600, divided as
follows by Court Order.

James Rhodes and wife Edna Maria, of Sumpter County, Ala., to Waitman G. Martin, of Wayne
Co., N. C., $1100 - Part of land of Daniel Kornegay, dec'd. which he purchased from Sally
A. Smith and which descended to said Edna as one of the Heirs at Law of Daniel in the
Division of Land was allotted to said Edna as Lot No. 5, adjoining lands of George L.
Kornegay and lands of Ann M. Rhodes, Constance L. Rhodes and Elizabeth J. Rhodes which
were allotted to them in said Division, 290 acres except so much thereof as has been
conveyed to Sally A. Smith as a Graveyard.

Kornegay (D 1842). Spring Term 1845 - To Court of Equity. Ann M., Constance L., and
Elizabeth J. Rhodes - by James Rhodes, their Guardian. Petition to sell their land, Lot
No. 4, inherited from their Grandfather, Daniel Kornegay, dec'd. Sale approved, Fall Term
1845. Waitman G. Martin purchased Lot No. 4, 220 acres, for $1150.
Note: The deed book Plat of Daniel Kornegay's
Brooks Swamp land indicates "Oats" Marsh Branch. A document in the Estate file,
describing the various Lots, uses the spelling "Oates" Marsh Branch throughout.
James Oates (CA 1724-1766) lived and died in Dobbs County, location of land not certain,
and two grand-children (Carraway) married Kornegays. Jethro Oates (CA 1732-1766) my
ancestor, and brother of James Oates, owned land, loc. not known, and lived in Dobbs
County until 1768 when he bought land in Duplin County (now in north eastern Sampson
County, south side of Goshen Swamp).
