Martha Jane Dail KORNEGAY Born Dec 13, 1826 - Died Nov 25, 1904 Martha Dail KORNEGAY appears in the 1850, 1860, and 1880 Federal Census records. Martha must have been a good cook; in November 1860, the seventh annual fair of the Duplin County Agricultural Society was held in Kenansville and a Mrs. D. K. KORNEGAY won a fifty cents prize for the best sponge cake and fifty cents for the best silver and gold cake (information source is the Faison & Pearl MacGowan book Flashes of Duplin County History). Her mark (Martha couldn't write) is on an 1881 deed of land to her son Nicodemus. The 1900 Federal Census shows Martha J. Dail KORNEGAY, a widow for four years, living with her son Nicodemus and his wife. Martha was 73 at the time. |
