Susanna SIMMONS married her first cousin Harget KORNEGAY. The 1850 and 1860 Federal Census' show Susanna and Harget with significant slave holdings. The 1880 Census shows Susanna Simmons KORNEGAY keeping house after her husband's death for one of her grandsons, an R. H. KORNEGAY. Apparently, Susanna could neither read nor write. She is buried next to her husband in the Westbrook Cemetery across from the tri-county power substation in Duplin County, NC.
